About Cyrilica
Hey there! I'm a language learner who was looking for a simple, no-nonsense tool to learn the Cyrillic alphabet, so I decided to build the tool I wished existed. Something straightforward: you pick which letters you want to practice, the app shows you a character, you type what it sounds like, and you get instant feedback. That's it. No fluff, no subscriptions, no annoying popups asking you to upgrade.
I built this mostly for myself while learning Russian, but honestly? If it helps even one other person out there trying to wrap their head around Cyrillic, that's awesome. Learning a new alphabet can feel overwhelming at first, but breaking it down into small groups and just drilling the basics makes it so much more manageable.
Why Cyrillic?
The Cyrillic script is used by over 250 million people worldwide. It's the writing system for Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Serbian, and many other languages. Once you get past the initial "these letters look weird" phase, it's actually pretty logical and consistent.
Plus, there's something really satisfying about being able to read signs and menus in a whole new script. It feels like unlocking a secret code.
How It Works
The concept is dead simple: choose which character groups you want to study (vowels, consonants, whatever), click "Begin Learning," and start typing. The app will randomly quiz you on those characters. Get it right, your streak goes up. Get it wrong, you see the correct answer and keep going.
There's no complicated spaced repetition algorithm or points system—just you, the letters, and honest practice. Sometimes the simplest approach is the best one.
Keep Practicing
Learning an alphabet takes repetition. Don't get discouraged if some letters don't stick right away (looking at you, Ы and Щ). Just keep at it, practice a little bit every day, and before you know it, you'll be reading Cyrillic like it's second nature.
Good luck with your learning, and thanks for using Cyrilica!
